WOLEP Sports Law Practice Hosts Successful Roundtable Event for International Legal Experts

On 11 April 2023, the WOLEP Sports Law Practice hosted its first-ever virtual roundtable event, inviting a group of international legal professionals involved in sports law, to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing young sports talents and sports clubs around the world. The event, moderated by Mr. Teodor Burnar, WOLEP Chief of Content & Branding, and Mrs. Adelina Zapis, Head of Network Development at WOLEP, was titled "WOLEP Sports Law Roundtable: International Legal Experts Discuss Opportunities and Challenges in the Field."

The guests included Ms. Karen Rodriguez and Mr. Fadja Baldé (WOLEP members, France), Mr. Luiz Carlos De Araujo Filho (Brazil), Mr. Teo Ranić (Croatia), Mr. José Carlos Pérez Arias (Spain), Mr. Giancarlo Paolo Pezzuti and Mr. Sebastiano Cavarra (Italy) and Mr. Mohamadou Aminou (Rwanda).

The objective of the roundtable was to promote a collaborative approach to the representation and management of sports talents and clubs by gathering legal experts from diverse jurisdictions worldwide. Each guest provided a legal analysis of sports players' representation regulations and contracts regulations in their home country, making the roundtable exceptionally diverse and comprehensive.

The think tank discussed several opportunities and responsibilities lawyers in football have, notably highlighting the importance of representation and management in the day-to-day life of sports talents. The WOLEP Sports Law Practice aims to establish contact with local football/sports clubs and academies, football schools, professional clubs, agents, and professional players' agencies, as well as players/parents, for establishing relationships. They also revealed that the WOLEP Sports Law Practice is inclusive of other sports, including but not limited to tennis, handball, volleyball, basketball, swimming, etc., and invited proposals or suggestions for potential collaboration in these areas.

The outcome of the sports think tank has the potential to change the landscape of sports representation and management strategies worldwide, and WOLEP and its members are eager to be at the forefront. The organizers welcome feedback and suggestions from members to maximize the potential benefits of any potential collaborations.
